Solar power is a term used to describe electricity generated from energy of the sun. It has been used since the beginning of the planet to make life possible. Now, we are harvesting this abundant resource to energize our lives.

Photovoltiacs, a field of solar, refers to usable energy generated directly from sunlight. In one step, photovoltiac solar panels turn the suns rays into electricity. Photovoltaic solar panels are leading the solar industry due to their long life, lack of moving parts, and simplicity. But a new branch of solar power is evolving, organic photovoltaic cells (OPVC).

An organic photovoltaic cell uses organic materials to absorb light and move electrons. The materials consist of a transparent photosensitive semiconductor. When sunlight hits the semiconductor, it dislodges electrons. The movement of these electrons is direct current electricity. This is converted to alternating current (the type of electricity that flows into your home) through an inverter.
