Photovoltaic (PV)

A material, when exposed to light, produces an electric current.

Solar Array

A electric system consisting of any number of photovoltaic solar panels connected in a circuit

Net Metering

Net metering allows homeowners who produce more electricity then they consume to sell the excess electricity. Net metering measure the amount of electricity added and removed from the electrical grid.

Solar System

A electric system consisting of any number of photovoltaic solar panels connected in a circuit and inverter.

Inverter

Converts electricity from direct current to alternating current. Solar panels produce direct current but your home uses alternating current. An inverted is required to convert the electricity.

Alternating Current (AC)

An electrical current that regularly changes direction. In the United States, electricity changes direction 60 times a minute.

Direct Current (DC)

A flow of electricity in one direction. This is the type of electricity produced by solar panels.

Solar Module

A string of solar cells used to harvest solar radiation and generate electricity.

Solar Cells

A cell that converts solar radiation into electricity.

Conversion Efficiency

How efficient a solar panel can convert sunlight into electricity or how efficiently a solar system can convert sunlight into usable electricity.
